Painting it has a descriptive quality that contains horizontal instantaneousness on a surface. Films, on the other hand, relate incidents across a course of time in a vertical progression and thus contains a narrative quality. Despite their differences, films and paintings are similar in methods of communication and designated systems of representation. For The Abode of  Anamnesis exhibition, we are honored to invite Professor Duan Lian from School of Art and Science of Concordia University to give a lecture on visual narratives. This lecture will analyze symbols in painting and film, examine their characteristics of narrative, and explain the space-time compatibility of visual arts and visual culture products through formal analysis. It will also touch on the cultural specification and ideological meanings of these symbolisms, and the challenges faced by the viewers value system.
